Topics:

  • General approach to our sessions
    1. Demonstrate examples of Applied Complexity
    2. Discuss role of Complexity Theory and how that/those theories translate to Applied Complexity
    3. Teaching
  • Attendees for pre-conference workshop
    • Ask colleagues in Camagüey to select 8-10 students who:
      • Are considered sophisticated computer users
      • Have some experience in programming in ANY language
      • Have a fairly good knowledge of Complexity Theory
      • Are likely to be in position to teach what they learn
      • It is a good idea. We can select these students.
  • Translation of StarLogo and NetLogo Manuals
    • TJ will create a wiki page to coordinate the distributed translation of the first three pages of Mike Gizzi's instructional materials and first three pages of StarLogo Manual
    • Part of this translation will include the building of two glossaries of application-specific terms that will be printed as a hand-out.  Glossaries should emphasize what a word DOES, not what it means.
    • Objectives:
      • Determine an approximate measure of how long it takes to translate a page of the manual?
      • Given that the actual programming of NetLogo will use English terms, is it necessary to translate the entire manual?
      • Is it possible that we only need to create a translated glossary of terms
      • For our seminar, I think it is not necessary to translate the whole manual. But, it could be useful to have a translated simplified version, which could be used by beginners.

    • Ask Nick Bennett and Paige Prescott if they will let us use their StarLogo learning modules as demonstrated by Josh Thorp
  • Ask Marcelo, et al. if they would like us to present a plenary session on "Applied Complexity"
  • It is a very good idea! Let´s propose a preliminary program for it.
